High Tech Sector Witnesses a Salary Hike
According to an analysis by the Dialog Consulting for Human Resources Ltd., the average salary in the high tech sector has steadily risen since mid-2012. However, there were two conflicting trends in a lot of high tech jobs during 2013. While the number of jobs that were available was 4% higher than it was back in 2012, primarily due to the fact that there was a 15% jump in web software developer positions, the number of non-web software development positions has fallen by 2%.
Part of the increase in job availabilities resulted from the accelerated expansion in the mobile industry in 2013. The demand for mobile developers has increased by 19% more in 2013. Around the same time, Google's Android operating system has increased their market share at the expense of Apple's iOS therefore boosting the demand for more Android developers. Dialog CEO Haya Bornstein said that this is presumably because Android devices are becoming more popular in Israel and around the world.
Even though the salary range has remained immutable for 18 months, with fluctuations, the avaerage salary has increased since mid-2012. Software engineers are the biggest beneficiaries of this salary hike.
Contrast to the blossoming job opportunities in the software sector, the hardware sector has been witnessing layoffs since 2009. Despite the fact that some hardware engineers were able to find employment, the general condition of the hardware sector still remains poor. The declination of employees in the hardware sector can be attributed to the decrease in job availabilities in hardware engineering therefore limiting the job prospects in that field for job seekers.
The salary for a software engineer with at two years of experience currently ranges from NIS 10,000 to NIS 18,000 a month while the average salary still remains at NIS 14,800 from 2012. The monthly salary range for a software engineer with over 6 years of experience, however, was NIS 17,000 to NIS 30,000, and the average salary has increased from NIS 20,100 per month in 2012 to 21,400 per month in 2013. The salary range for a senior software engineer was NIS 20,000 to NIS 30,000 per month, and the average salary rose from NIS 24,500 to NIS 24,900 in the course of the year.
At the same time, the monthly salary for a hardware engineer with more than 6 years of experience ranged from NIS 18,000 to NIS 30,000 while the average salary has dropped from NIS 24,300 in 2012 to NIS 20,200 in 2013.
